while the Paris Council promises to be tense, the mayor of Paris prepares her counterattack

The oppositions have still not digested the trip of the mayor of Paris to New Caledonia and Tahiti. “While Anne Hidalgo buckles her seat belt, Parisians are tightening their belts,” says a Parisian elected official, before Tuesday’s Council.

The day of Tuesday, November 14 promises to be tense at Paris City Hall. From 9 a.m., a meeting of the Paris Council devoted to the budgetary debate must take place, but the current controversy over Anne Hidalgo’s trip to Polynesia will inevitably enter the discussions. The oppositions have still not digested the episode and will speak out. In short: there is no question of letting this 60,000 euro trip go by.

For Rachida Dati and the Parisian right, the budgetary orientation debate will be an opportunity to draw a parallel with the billions of euros in debt of the city of Paris. “While Anne Hidalgo buckles her seat belt, Parisians tighten their belts”, says an elected official. In a newspaper interview The Parisian (article reserved for subscribers), the president (LR) of the Changer Paris group, Rachida Dati, believes that it is “justice to seize it”.

But Anne Hidalgo’s clan does not intend to suffer. He can rely on the opinion of the Ethics Commission which found nothing wrong with the financing of the trip and considers that no public funds were used for private purposes. If Anne Hidalgo extended her stay with her family, she paid for it out of her own pocket.

And the mayor of Paris is preparing her counterattack: a deliberation establishing transparency on the travel of all Parisian elected officials, whether these trips are paid for by the community or by another organization, the idea is to bring door-to-door false certain right-wing elected officials who accepted potentially embarrassing invitations.
