Tuesday April 2, the day after the death of seven humanitarian workers in Gaza, Palestine, the NGO World Central Kitchen made the decision to suspend its activities there. But what is this organization?

Seven humanitarian workers lost their lives on Monday 1er April, while they were in vehicles belonging to the NGO World Central Kitchen. The organization was behind the first humanitarian boat sent to the Gaza Strip when the war broke out, and claims to have already provided more than 43 million meals to the Palestinian people since the start of the conflict, by land or sea.

“We have to make sure these civilians don’t die.”

Founded by the famous chef José Andrés, it was founded in 2010 after the earthquake in Haiti, with a simple principle: when people are hungry, send cooks. Since then, the activity has expanded to other regions of the world. “We have to take care of them, we have to make sure that these civilians are not going to die”, assured the starred chef. After the attack on one of its convoys and the death of seven of its humanitarian workers in the region, the NGO suspended its activity in the Gaza Strip since Tuesday April 2.
