The government is concerned about the diet of young people and wants to strengthen food education among the French, particularly among children given the growing popularity of fast food.

According to a survey published by Harris Interactive, only 66% of 15-24 year olds regularly eat fruits and vegetables compared to 81% of the general population. 60% eat prepared meals or fast foods at least once a month. Among the reasons given, we find the price justifying the consumption of prepared meals, although they are often more expensive than cooking yourself.

Actions soon to be carried out in schools

Another lesson from the study: the difficulty of recognizing certain vegetables. One in five young people cannot tell the difference between a zucchini and a cucumber. According to this survey carried out last February, 18% of the youngest respondents said they recognized a cucumber or an eggplant (2%) when presented with a photo of a zucchini. The government plans to intensify its efforts to promote food education, in particular by strengthening actions carried out in schools.
