In France, more and more tobacco shops offer the same services as bank branches. It is possible to deposit money there and have a payment card.
You can now withdraw money from tobacco shops. More and more customers of tobacco shops are using it to deposit their money. In April, Française des Jeux launched its own banking offer. The account can be funded by transfer or in cash. Once at the counter, you must choose an amount. A QR code is then generated. You must have your identity card with you. The operation can be carried out in any partner tobacco shop. “The network of tobacconists is a network which is often in the city center but also in rural areas”explains Raphaël Botbol, president of FDJ Services.
To have a payment card, you have to pay around thirty euros per year. The service is accessible to everyone, including those prohibited from banking. Three million customers have already opted for a bank account with a tobacconist, this time with another market player: Nickel, a subsidiary of BNP Paribas. “You are at peace, you have no worries, you have alerts (…), at least there are no overdrafts!”, summarizes Gilles Hamza, a user. The tobacconist receives 2.50 euros for each account opening as well as a percentage for each deposit or withdrawal.
