When the painting of François Augeras resonates with the works of the museum

Pauline Rolland tells us about this famous sword in the museum’s collections.

“A bronze sword of about sixty centimeter which was found in the Dordogne”

Pauline Rolland explains his choice to us: “we wanted to evoke the magical practices with which François Augieras” rubbed himself “, we know in particular that he himself forged metal swords, which he then threw into certain rivers … like the Vézère … as a kind of tribute to these practices (ancestral NLDR)

To the right of the sword, a photo of the arm of François Augieras brandishing a sword that he himself forged. A perfect example of “resonance”.

Pauline Rolland finally explains to us that Fraçois Augiéras had “a conception of art which was not at all that of his contemporaries”, symbolism and magic took up a lot of space. He gave them life. These paintings weren’t meant to be simply nailed to a living room wall.

“Regards Croisés, François Augiéras, rives primitives”, it is until March 28 at the National Museum of Prehistory of Les Eyzies
