when the mayor of Louvroil wants to raze a castle to build a supermarket

It is an opulent building with its turret and its wings of old stones. A small castle, which is actually a mansion dating from the 19th century, is located in the heart of Louvroil (Nord), a town of 6,600 inhabitants. It could soon be razed in favor of an Aldi supermarket. Most of the inhabitants met on the morning of Tuesday August 16 say they are scandalized by this project. “I think it’s completely useless. In addition, it still removes something that is from the municipality”says one of them.

The town already houses an Aldi supermarket, but the sign evokes parking difficulties​, and a lack of space. If it cannot settle in place of the castle, the company threatens to leave. For the town hall, there is no question of it, because the shops are already scarce. A position that is not shared by an elected official from the city’s opposition, who launched a petition to save the castle. The building could be demolished by the end of the year if no appeal is filed before the end of August.
