Like every Thursday, Valérie Heurtel comes to talk about French initiatives and good ideas. Thursday September 14, head to Aix-en-Provence, where a trash can is revolutionizing waste collection.
“Our idea for France is to teach wild birds to collect waste in exchange for a food reward”says Jules Mollaret, co-founder Birds for change. We must imagine a world where birds collect our waste. He set up a smart trash can for birds. “The bird will deposit waste directly and will receive a reward via the food dispenser”, he says. In Jules’ head, the idea is to teach men a lesson.
Train the bird
He’s not the first to get started. In Sweden, a man has been training magpies for a long time to clean up his garden. One capsule is equivalent to one peanut. Magpies, ravens, crows are the only ones capable of picking up our waste. However, they are not the favorite birds of the inhabitants, but they are the most useful against waste.
Whenever a trash bin is installed in a garden, it takes a little time before they can be dragged away. In Rouen (Seine-Maritime), two horses sneak through the streets to allow a pickup garbage.
