I read with interest Jeanne Corriveau’s article published on July 19, 2023 in The duty regarding traffic difficulties on rue Saint-Hubert north of avenue du Mont-Royal in Montreal. Anyone who drives regularly in this area has indeed had the opportunity to see the narrowness of the lane and the safety risks associated with it, whether in summer or in normal weather.
There is, however, a major explanatory element that is not mentioned in M’s article.me Corriveau and which deserves to be underlined: the narrowness of the passage of rue Saint-Hubert north of Mont-Royal is also attributable to the presence of increasingly large motor vehicles that park in this street. For the attentive observer, the trend towards an increase in the size of vehicles has been clear in this sector for the past five or six years, or even longer. In other words, residents are partly responsible for the traffic problems they deplore on their own street, by the very fact of their decision to buy oversized vehicles. The consequences of the summer pedestrianization of Mont-Royal Avenue only add to this situation and make it more flagrant.
