In some supermarkets, an anti-waste label with 3 stars aims to encourage brands and merchants to throw away less. Now, the big brands are getting into it. How it works ? Reporting.
At first glance, a supermarket located in Saint-Grégoire (Ille-et-Vilaine) appears to be like any other. But in each department, an anti-waste corner with its soon to expire products is sold 30% cheaper on average. The initiative has been acclaimed by customers. “I especially think of students in these cases, because I have two student children and it is a real budget for food”comments a mother.
Anti-waste collection has tripled
In the supermarket, since 2015, we have been aiming for zero waste. In addition to the products sold off, what cannot be sold is sorted and then donated to charities. In eight years, the anti-waste collection has tripled, a source of great pride for all staff. “Any employee who joins the company is trained in the anti-waste approach and is made aware of this principle throughout the year”says Christophe Allain, director of the Leclerc Saint-Grégoire store.
