When Poilievre prefers Fox News

Poll after poll shows the Conservatives are swimming in good news.

The huge political marketing campaign around their leader Pierre Poilievre is working.

The party succeeded in making him known, in making him more endearing, more credible, more moderate, less radical, in the eyes of Canadian voters.

Pierre Poilievre is emerging as a trustworthy alternative to Justin Trudeau, according to a major survey by pollster Abacus Data.

It would therefore be tempting to say that a Conservative victory is in the bag in the next election.

This would be to forget that Pierre Poilievre’s beautiful advertising campaign does not explain all of his popularity and that confidence in him remains fragile.

Tired of Trudeau

Many Canadians still wonder what he really wants to do with this country.

And the last few days have damaged the image of the loving, sensitive and calm dad put forward in its advertisements.

He preferred to jump on the bandwagon of Fox News and the American right by jumping to conclusions from a terrorist attack near Niagara.

Instead of showing restraint like all the other party leaders, he took the opportunity to launch his slogan on national security in the House.

A blatant lack of height.

Worse, he once again attacked the integrity of a journalist who asked him if he was responsible for making this type of statement.

Another example ?

His right-hand man Andrew Scheer who intimidates two senators on social networks by publishing their professional numbers and emails on his Twitter feed and inviting his 236,000 subscribers to flood them with calls. One of them received a threatening call and the police got involved.

Haven’t we talked enough about the precarious security of our politicians?

Pierre Poilievre had reserved similar treatment for Alain Rayes. It didn’t go down very well in Quebec and he ended up apologizing.

When nature comes back at a gallop.

Cost of life

Conservatives should keep in mind that Canadians are more tired of Justin Trudeau than they are in love with their leader.

We must remember the strong trend which closely links Poilievre’s popularity and the difficult economic context.

The correlation is almost perfect between the fall of the Liberals and the increase in interest rates decreed by the Bank of Canada to curb inflation, since the spring of 2022.

The liberals seem to have understood this… but perhaps too late.

Chrystia Freeland’s economic update seemed to please the Bank of Canada governor for its relative frugality.

Tiff Macklem suggested that we may be done with rising rates. Will a reduction come quickly enough to calm the discontent before the next elections? This is the hope to which the liberals cling.

That, and the fact that Pierre Poilievre is failing to live up to the role of Prime Minister.

The Conservative leader has the gift of giving them reason to hope.
