In Brittany, 70 pharmacies are authorized to prescribe treatments for minor ailments, as part of an experiment. What relieve the inhabitants and the agenda of general practitioners.
It is one of the most deficient rural areas in terms of health. In Saint-Georges-de-Reintembault (Ille-et-Vilaine), there has been no doctor for more than six years. So for a year, a Breton pharmacy has been participating in an experiment. For 13 common pathologies, Valérie Bureau offers treatment at the pharmacy. A questionnaire developed with doctors makes it possible to better assess the situation. “It still allows us to better assist people, and better orient them”she says.
40 Breton pharmacies are taking part in the experiment
Of the thirty cases treated, two thirds were taken care of on site. Valérie Bureau receives a bonus of 15 euros for each case. Some doctors around cringe, but not all. 10 km away, at the Louvigné du Désert health center (Ille-et-Vilaine), the three general practitioners are overwhelmed and have agreed to participate in the system. “Cooperations are really very important things to develop, but they unfortunately come, in my opinion, too late”deplores however Dr. Jean-Francois Besnard, who considers the answer “insufficient”. 40 Breton pharmacies are taking part in the experiment, and 30 others have just joined them.
