Drug shortage: when pharmacies take over

Nearly 4,000 drugs are out of stock or at risk of being out of stock in France. In Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), certain professionals have decided to no longer wait for hypothetical deliveries and to return to the basics of the profession, by manufacturing their own medicines.
In this pharmacy in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), like almost everywhere in France, there is no longer a single box of an antibiotic which treats infections. Amoxicillin is nowhere to be found, and he’s not the only one. “The problem is that there is a shortage of drugs that are important“, indicates Valérie De Lécluse, president of the Union of Pharmacists in Marseille. She was able to obtain one last box, which comes from another pharmacy in Marseille, specializing in the manufacture of medicines.
Authorization from the National Medicines Safety Agency
In this laboratory attached to the pharmacy, all treatments out of stock are produced on request, with the authorization of the National Medicines Safety Agency, and the approval of the ARS. 350,000 amoxicillin capsules left this laboratory this year. And to cope with the market shortage, 50 preparers are manufacturing tirelessly, including on weekends. Over the past year and a half, production has increased by 30%.
