The prices of coffee, croissants, orange juice and cereals have soared. This corresponds to the spectacular rise in prices.

From morning coffee to toast, to orange juice, the breakfast bill might get a little steep. Indeed, the price of ingredients soared by 28%. Thus, with regard to coffee, the price of arabica has more than doubled on the markets. In a bistro near Paris, the price of the morning espresso should therefore soon increase. “It was at 1.90 euros, it could go to 2 euros, 2.10 euros”Explain Antony Anon, manager of the Garden Ice Café, who specifies that this increase could “limit breakage”.

The reason for this increase is in South America. Because of the weather, in Brazil, the coffee harvests were more “ristretto” than elongated. “In 2021, we had a very big drought. We didn’t have any coffee. I was counting on 2022, and then there was this frost. It really hurt us”, deplores a Brazilian producer. On the breakfast table, a price increase is also feared on bread and croissants because of wheat prices. There is also concern about orange juice, the prices of which have soared on the markets. Blame it on a disease affecting citrus fruits, but also on the rise in the cost of transport.
