A few weeks before the Olympic Games, more and more foreign tourists are turning to the European Consumer Center to warn of a fraudulent practice by certain hotels.
Did you think you found an affordable hotel room in Paris this summer for the Olympic Games? Be wary as some hotels will cancel their reservations to charge rates up to six times higher. This is what several tourists denounce. For example, a tourist had his reservation canceled without having requested it. Result: instead of paying 915 euros, this time his reservation is displayed at 1,718 euros on the internet.
Prices two to three times more expensive this summer
The hotels in question confirm having canceled certain reservations but have denied any desire to increase prices. These practices, if proven, are completely illegal. The practice is denounced by the representative of Parisian hoteliers who, however, minimizes its extent. “If it’s really the truth, obviously we condemn”, said Franck Delvau, president of UMIH Paris-IDF. Hotel prices will, on average, be two to three times more expensive this summer compared to a normal year.
