The war in Ukraine also has consequences for fuel prices in Germany. More and more Germans are coming to fill up at cheaper French service stations.

In Germany, prices at the pump reached record levels on Wednesday April 27: more than 2 euros per liter for the Super + in Breisach (Germany). On the other side of the border, the French resort of Volgelsheim (Haut-Rhin) offers fares 30 cents cheaper. “In Germany it would have cost me 75 euros, and here it is 56 euros. It’s interesting“, confides to the German motorist.

The phenomenon is also observed in another station, in Marckolsheim (Bas-Rhin). “It’s a bit of a game. Before, it’s true that we were the ones who crossed the border to go and supply ourselves in Germany, so it’s a bit logical“, estimates a customer. Yvan Spor, director of the Super U of Marckolsheim, had to adapt to the request. We have 50% more deliveries“, he says. He is nevertheless delighted with this gain of new customers, who sometimes take the opportunity to do some shopping in his store.
