Several cities have decided to honor football players with a statue.
On Saturday October 29, a commemoration took place in homage to Diego Maradona, in Naples (Italy), around his statue. In bronze, it has a gold foot. There is another statue in the UK, of a French player, Thierry Henry, in London. In the country, the statue is an art recurrent. In France, we find Henry Michel in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), Jean Prouff in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), Raymond Keruzoré in Carhaix (Finistère) and the very first: in Reims (Marne), that of Raymond Kopa. His statue cost €200,000.
Another work, depicting Zinédine Zidane’s headbutt of Italian player Marco Materazzi, was exhibited in 2012 on the forecourt of the Pompidou Center (Paris), which created a controversy, explains journalist Samuel Ollivier. Finally, in Funchal (Portugal), there is a very special statue of Cristiano Ronaldo, worn by the public who cannot help touching it.
