Crack in Paris: when drugs poison the daily lives of local residents

(France 2)

In Paris, night and day, crack addicts wander the streets of the north of the capital. Locals call them “undead”.

In the north of Paris, shortly after midnight, in plain sight, there are dozens of men and women, sometimes violent, sometimes haggard. All are addicted to the same substance: crack. It is one of the most addictive hard drugs and one dose would be enough to enter a vicious cycle of dependence.

In the Villette district, this narcotic product whose effects last “two to three minutes” is sold in packs, also called “Pebble”. “Instead of going to buy food, you would prefer to go and smoke crack, while you lose your mind. You lose yourself, in fact”confides a consumer.

The activity of traders paralyzed

Night and day, drug addicts roam the streets of the north of the capital. They are also nicknamed “undead” by the inhabitants. They also paralyze the activity of traders. “We were going to crash anyway, so last December, I said stop”explains Sébastien Attal, restaurateur in liquidation based in the neighborhood, not without difficulty.
