For individuals and professionals, the question of compensation arises, faced with the damage and looting of which they have been victims. On Saturday, the Minister of the Economy had appealed to insurance companies to reduce deductibles and launch procedures quickly.
The image is striking. In just a few minutes, dozens of people invaded a Marseille tobacconist, robbed and looted, overnight from Friday to Saturday. Same scenes everywhere Ile-de-France. A tobacconist is desperate. “The launch credit, plus the works, I am at more than 370,000 euros. I add the stock, which does not belong to me, I was robbed of around 140,000 euros of goods“, he laments. In Limoges (Haute-Vienne), a diving equipment shop was also targeted in the middle of the night. The thieves took almost everything.
Up to 1,900 cars burned per night
When and how will these professionals be compensated? The shops are covered by multi-risk insurance. It protects against fires. However, coverage for vandalism or business interruption depends on the options taken out by the insured. Bruno Le Maire promises accelerated procedures and lower deductibles. But it’s not just businesses that have been affected. What will happen to individuals whose car has been burned? Only those who have taken out fire cover will be compensated, provided they report the loss within five days and file a complaint. At the height of the riots, up to 1,900 cars per night were burned.
