What will Clermont Métropole look like with the InspiRe project?

Soon, you will move differently in the Clermont area. Clermont Auvergne Métropole, with the SMTC and the T2C, are transforming the public transport network. The goal: more space for buses and bicycles. The project, “InspiRe”, will see the light of day from 2025.

This is a major step for the Metropolis. It has just adopted, this Friday, the project to restructure the public transport network. “InspiRe” transforms the Metropolis, to leave more room for buses and bicycles.

The main objective for the metropolis: invite motorists to go to public transport.Today, 60% of Clermont residents and residents of the Metropolis use their car to travel less than 3 kilometers“, illustrates Olivier Bianchi.

The project, in two phases, will see the light of day in December 2025. Construction should be completed by mid-2027.

Reach the city center in 30 minutes

The entire Clermont public transport network will be restructured, with two new high-level service bus lines on routes B and C, in addition to the tramway. In 2025, almost 9 out of 10 inhabitants will be less than 300 meters from a station of bus. The idea is to be able reach the city center in 30 minutes maximum by bus.

Electric buses and more vegetation

The buses will be fully electric. This is also the project of the Metropolis: driving at zero carbon. It signs with the company “Hess and Hitachi”, already in service in Nantes and Geneva.

In 2025, you will also see more trees along the tracks: the agglomeration plans to plant 1,500.

The use of bicycles will also be encouraged, with 21 kilometers of additional cycle paths. They will replace certain parking spaces in the city center, in favor of park and ride facilities along the brand new lines B and C. You will find them, for example, at the Grande Halle de Cournon, at Aulnat airport, and at Breuil. , in Royat.

Inevitably, it will be difficult to circulate in the Metropolis during the next two years of work. The City is also mobilizing 50% of the workforce of municipal agents for the site. Olivier Bianchi wants to be totally transparent about this: “Obviously, we are aware that the two and a half years of construction will be long, heavy, painful since these are works without common measure. But afterwards, it means allowing our city to experience a new era in which we will live better and we will breathe better.

A project that will cost a total of 324 million euros.
