What will become of the canvas of the Olympic Stadium?

We know that the Montreal Olympic Stadium will have a new roof. What we don’t yet know is what will become of the materials that make it up, including its enormous canvas! In fact, the Olympic Park launched a competition to invite people to submit their ideas.

A canvas the size of 26 ice rinks, huge steel cables, concrete… It’s not easy to recycle all that! But the Olympic Park has launched an international appeal to find solutions.

Place for competition

The competition is open to design and architecture professionals and students from around the world. The mission: to find creative, unique and environmentally friendly solutions to give a second life to the materials of the old roof.

The competition offers total freedom! That said, the projects must be beneficial to the residents of the neighborhood around the Stadium.

We have the last word!

A jury will first choose eight projects. Then, it will be up to the population to vote for their favorite idea. It is therefore Quebecers who will determine the next life of the web!

And you ? How would you use the materials from the roof of the Olympic Stadium? Why not make hot air balloons to fly over the city? Or build a big artificial mountain on which we could go sledding or skiing all year round? Let your creativity run free!
