Clouds with or without rain? On the eve of the start of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, some uncertainty still remains regarding the weather forecast for the evening of Friday, July 26. However, two things are certain: there will be no storms or heatwave to disrupt the party. However, the weather will be slightly rainy in the North, announces Météo France.

On Friday morning, Paris will wake up to rain due to a disturbance coming from the Channel. However, the precipitation should remain moderate, before shifting towards the northeast in the afternoon, which will remain very cloudy even if some clearings cannot be ruled out. It is for the rest that uncertainty persists: a line of light showers coming from the Loire Valley towards Essonne and Seine-et-Marne.

“Paris being just north of this area, it is not impossible that light showers will occur in the evening”warns Cyrille Duchesne, the head of the forecasting department at Meteo Consult/La Chaîne Météo. “We will avoid the disaster scenario of a totally rainy evening or a big storm which would have been totally possible at this time of year and would have ruined the ceremony,” he rejoices.

“Certainly, we won’t have great weather, the sky won’t be blue and should remain cloudy, but the evening should still be pleasant.” “We have elements that we are more certain of than others. But overall, it will be calm weather.”adds Jerôme Lecou, forecaster at Météo-France.

According to the private Weather Channel, there is a 70 to 80% chance that the weather will remain dry. But for the remaining 20 to 30%, spectators of the ceremony may have to take out umbrellas at certain times. Despite everything, the entire opening ceremony, scheduled on the Seine and its quays between 7:30 p.m. and 11:15 p.m., should be able to take place without a hitch, forecasters estimate. Indeed, there will be virtually no wind and temperatures will remain pleasant, with a thermometer around 21/22 degrees.
