The digital platforms born from Silicon Valley have always turned their noses up at low-paying content products. How can we blame them? Quebec, by its language and its culture, is even more demeaned than Canada, because, for Netflix and others, it is even more restrictive. How can we blame them? The lords of Silicon Valley have a logically capitalist profit ethic that produces fewer and fewer winners. Their by-products have made petulant slaves of us. How can we blame them?
Canadian organizations overseeing the “production” of digital platforms can show their teeth against the giants. Legislating to force their hand is illusory in the face of their Silk Road on which we are only itinerant. How can we blame them?
