It’s back to Parliament in both Quebec and Ottawa. Other events will follow. Here’s what to watch for this week.




The return to parliament in Quebec and Ottawa

The elected members of the House of Commons in Ottawa and the National Assembly in Quebec will return on January 30 and 31, respectively. On January 31, consultations are scheduled in Quebec, including those on Bill 2, An Act to, in particular, cap the price indexation rate of Hydro-Québec’s domestic distribution rates and increase the framework for the obligation to distribute electricity.

In Ottawa, chamber proceedings will no doubt be marked by the tabling of the first part of the final report of the Ottawa People’s Commission on the Occupation of the Convoy (OPC), at 10 a.m. Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau will participate in Question Period at 2 p.m.

Regional air transport: Parti Québécois press briefing

Support for people living with a rare disease

The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister responsible for the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, Andrée Laforest represents the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, as part of an announcement concerning support for people living with a rare disease. She will be accompanied by the member for Lac-Saint-Jean Éric Girard.

The Deputy Premier of Quebec and Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Ms. Geneviève Guilbault, and the Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) will announce a major project at 10:30 a.m.

Statistics Canada reveals data on immigration and Canadian businesses

Statistics Canada will unveil at 8:30 a.m. on January 30 socioeconomic data on immigrants admitted as children in 2021. The government body will at the same time provide monthly estimates of business openings and closures for the month of October 2022. .

Opening of the exhibition Views of the river at the Great Library

The exhibition Views of the river will open on January 31 and will be held at the Grande Bibliothèque until June 4. The exhibition offers a journey of visual and literary works on the theme of the St. Lawrence River. Manon Barbeau and Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette are the curators.

Inauguration of the Armand-Frappier Health Museum

On January 31, the Armand-Frappier Health Museum reopens its doors in a new building. Two new exhibitions will be offered to the public: 4,3,2,1 Cheers! (permanent exhibition) and Pandemics: Humanity challenged (January 31 to September 4).
