What to watch for on September 30, 2024?

Today marks the fourth anniversary of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Established in 2021, the federal holiday honors the victims and survivors of residential schools and the families and communities they affected. At approximately 3 p.m. this afternoon, the Governor General of Canada, Mary Simon, will speak at a rally on Parliament Hill.

Orange Shirt Day is also held on September 30. This commemoration orchestrated by Indigenous communities promotes the concept that “every child counts”. Organizers and the Government of Canada are encouraging people across the country to wear orange today. The Peace Tower and the Senate building in Ottawa will be lit in this color for the evening.
