Voters in the riding of LaSalle-Émard-Verdun are going to the polls today to elect a new federal MP. The latest poll by Mainstreet Research shows that Bloc Québécois candidate Louis-Philippe Sauvé is ahead in voting intentions. With 29.6% of support, according to the poll, he is followed by Liberal Party candidate Laura Palestini (24.1%), then by New Democratic Party candidate Craig Sauvé (23%).
According to experts, the results of this by-election will be decisive for the future of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. In the last by-election, in the riding of Toronto-St. Paul’s, the Liberals lost a seat to the Conservatives. With 91 candidates, the by-election also breaks the record for candidacies in a riding for a federal election.
