Israel has confirmed its desire to launch a ground operation in the Gaza Strip.
Will the Israeli army invade the Gaza Strip? Israel, which swore to put an end to Hamas after its bloody attack on October 7, sees warnings multiply about the consequences of its military operations for the civilian populations in Gaza. Here’s what to remember from the day.
An Israeli ground operation in preparation…
“We are preparing an entrance to the ground” in the Gaza Strip, confirmed Wednesday evening, October 25, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, during a speech. “When, how, how much, and the considerations we take into account, I can’t go into detail,” he added.
While waiting for this probable land operation promised on numerous occasions by the Israeli authorities, the army, which has recalled 360,000 reservists massed at the borders of the Gaza Strip, is relentlessly shelling the small coastal territory controlled by the Palestinian Islamist movement.
…despite international warnings
Engage in a land offensive “massive” in the Gaza Strip, already besieged and shelled relentlessly by the Israeli army, would be a “error”, judged French President Emmanuel Macron. And if American President Joe Biden is not in favor, as it stands, of a ceasefire, as demanded by the United Nations and many countries, he also warned his ally on Wednesday. Israel must do “everything possible to spare civilians”, he said from the White House. Many countries are calling for a humanitarian pause in the incessant bombings carried out by Israel, which has vowed to“annihilate” Palestinian Hamas.
Hospitals submerged in Gaza
According to the Hamas government’s Health Ministry, 12 out-of-service hospitals and 32 dispensaries have closed. In total, 73 health personnel were killed, 57 establishments attacked and 25 ambulances destroyed, according to the same source. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees is on the verge of no longer being able to carry out its activities due to lack of fuel in the Gaza Strip where 2.4 million Palestinians are crowded together in disastrous humanitarian conditions.
France announces aid for civilians
France announced the sending of a military ship with a hospital on board to Gaza to help rescue civilians. “A French plane will land tomorrow on [le] ground [égyptien] to deliver medical equipment” and “others will follow”, affirmed Emmanuel Macron, alongside his Egyptian counterpart. The French president clarified that the plane “will leave Toulon in the next 48 hours”. Furthermore, “a national navy ship will soon set sail to support hospitals in Gaza”.
