A report from a UN diplomat on Tuesday accused Israel of being responsible for “acts of genocide” in Gaza.

The day after the adoption by the UN Security Council of a resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza, Israel and Hamas accused each other of the failure of the negotiations. UN special rapporteur accuses Israel of ‘acts of genocide’
In a report released Tuesday, the United Nations special rapporteur on the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, says that Israel has committed several “acts of genocide” in the Gaza Strip. The diplomat, accused by Israel of having made remarks “anti-Semitic”, was not allowed to go to the Palestinian enclave. Its report was drawn up using data from organizations present in Gaza and interviews with experts and civilians.
In response, the Israeli representation to the United Nations in Geneva “totally rejected the report” of Francesca Albanese and claimed that he was part “a campaign aimed at undermining the very establishment of the Jewish state”. The United States also declared that it did not “no reason to believe that Israel committed acts of genocide in Gaza”.
Another Israeli hostage dies
An association of hostage families announced Tuesday March 26 that Ouriel Barouch, kidnapped last October 7 like more than 250 hostages, had been killed. The Israeli army informed his relatives that his body was being held in Gaza, according to a statement from the association, which did not specify the date or circumstances of his death.
This father of two children was kidnapped during the Nova music festival, the scene of the massacre of 364 people on October 7 by Hamas commandos. According to the Israeli authorities, 130 hostages are missing, 34 of whom are dead.
Hamas calls for an end to humanitarian airdrops
Eighteen Palestinians died, including twelve drowned at sea, while trying to recover food parachuted into the Gaza Strip, on the verge of famine, Hamas announced on Tuesday. The Islamist movement called for these air operations to cease and land access to be opened for humanitarian aid. In the process, the White House announced that it “would continue” to deliver aid there by airdrop.
“Aid airdrops are one of the many ways we are using to provide the aid that Palestinians in Gaza so desperately need and we will continue to do so” all in “working tirelessly to increase the arrival of humanitarian assistance by land”declared a spokesperson for the United States presidency.
In addition, the Hamas Health Ministry reported 12 deaths, including children, on Tuesday after an Israeli airstrike on the tent of a displaced family in Khan Younes, in the south of the Gaza Strip. Hamas’ health ministry earlier in the day estimated that 70 people had died overnight from Monday to Tuesday, including 13 in airstrikes near Rafah. In 24 hours, 81 additional deaths were recorded, according to the same source.
Israel confirms death of Hamas leader
The IDF confirmed Tuesday that it had “eliminated” the number 2 of the armed wing of Hamas, Marwan Issa, in a strike in Gaza. Marwan Issa, “one of the organizers of the October 7 massacre”has been “eliminated in a strike we carried out two weeks ago”declared the army spokesperson in a press conference.
A member of the Hamas political bureau, Izzat al-Rishq, later said in a statement that he did not “not have confidence” in the Israeli announcement, without however providing proof of life of this senior official, whose death was announced on March 18 by the White House.
