The Israeli army assured during the day that it had carried out around 120 additional strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, two days after killing its leader Hassan Nasrallah. The first French victim was an 87-year-old woman. She died Monday after a “strong explosion” in a village in southern Lebanon, according to the Quai d’Orsay.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs travels to Lebanon

Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot arrived in Beirut on Sunday evening for a 24-hour visit. He announced the sending of humanitarian equipment to the site. Two advanced medical posts, capable of treating 1,000 seriously injured people, will be transported. A second delivery will arrive in the coming weeks.

Nearly 50 dead in Israeli strikes

The Israeli army carried out around 120 additional strikes on Sunday against Hezbollah in Lebanon, where the Islamist movement fired rockets into Israeli territory. These new strikes by the Jewish state left nearly 60 dead.

In southern Lebanon, 37 people were killed in Israeli raids and in the east of the country at least 25 died, according to a new report from the Ministry of Health.

The number of displaced people in Lebanon over the past year could reach a million

Nearly a million people may have been displaced by Israeli strikes on Lebanon, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Sunday. This would be equivalent to one sixth of the country’s total population and would be the “largest population displacement in the history of the country”.

The World Food Program (WFP) has also launched an emergency operation to provide food aid to a million people affected by the recent escalation of the conflict in Lebanon, this UN agency announced on Sunday. “As the crisis deepens, we are preparing to help up to a million people with a mix of cash and food aid”announced Matthew Hollingworth, WFP director for Lebanon.

Israel carries out strikes in Yemen

Four people were killed and around 30 injured in Israeli airstrikes on two ports and two power plants in Houthi-controlled western Yemen, a rebel-affiliated channel said on Sunday. The Israeli army announced that“during a large-scale air operation, dozens of air force aircraft (…) attacked military targets of the Houthi terrorist regime in the regions of Ras Issa and Hodeida “.

Iran threatens Israel with retaliation

The head of Iranian diplomacy, Abbas Araghchi, promised Sunday that the death of a general of the Revolutionary Guards, killed in the bombing which targeted Hassan Nasrallah on Friday, “would not remain unanswered”. “The diplomatic apparatus will also use all its capabilities… to pursue criminals and their supporters,” he said.

Pope Francis calls for immediate ceasefire in Lebanon
