After more than two months of conflict, the Israeli air force continued, on Sunday, December 10, to fight intense battles with Palestinian Hamas in the Gaza Strip and to bombard the small besieged territory. Palestinian fighters continued to fire rockets towards Israel, the majority of which were intercepted. Here is what to remember from this new day of war.

Israel calls on terrorists to ‘surrender’

I say to the Hamas terrorists: this is the end.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the Palestinian group’s fighters to lay down their arms. “See you now.”he said, claiming to record numerous surrenders in recent days which announce “The beginning of the end” of the Islamist movement. “It will take time”he however clarified.

The Israeli military shows no intention of slowing down. The war will continue “as long as it takes to ensure that Hamas can never harm our people again”, declared the spokesperson for the Israeli government, Eylon Levy. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, while recognizing that Israel must “to protect yourself” in front of “a terrorist organization”demanded “military operations designed around the protection of civilians” with more breaks and humanitarian corridors.

Hamas opens the door to “negotiation”

Hamas warns that none of the hostages kidnapped in the October 7 attack will come out “alive” from the Gaza Strip “without an exchange and a negotiation” and without “follow the requirements” of the Palestinian movement. Waiting for, “we have no choice but to fight this barbaric occupier, in every neighborhood, street or alley”, declared the spokesperson for its armed wing, Abou Obeida. According to the Hamas Ministry of Health, 17,997 people have died since the start of the conflict in Gaza, the vast majority of them women and children.

Before shattering on December 1, a week of truce allowed the release of 105 hostages held in the Gaza Strip, including 80 Israeli hostages exchanged for 240 Palestinian detainees. According to Israel, 137 hostages remain held in the Gaza Strip. Qatar, which had mediated, indicated that efforts “continued” for the conclusion of a new truce and the release of new hostages, while emphasizing that the Israeli offensive “narrowed the perspective” of a success.

WHO calls for immediate aid for Gaza

The World Health Organization (WHO) adopted by consensus a resolution calling for urgent humanitarian aid for Gaza, where doctors face harsh working conditions “unimaginable”, according to his boss. While the UN Security Council failed to demand a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, due to the veto of the United States, the 34 member countries of the WHO Executive Council are all calling for “immediate, sustainable and unimpeded passage of humanitarian aid” in the Gaza Strip. In recent days, the WHO and other NGOs have warned of the spread of diseases due to overpopulation, combined with a lack of adequate food, water, shelter and sanitation.

Attack plan foiled in Cyprus, according to Israel

Israel and Cyprus foiled Iranian plan to attack “Israeli and Jewish targets” on the Mediterranean island, said the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Cypriot police earlier said they had arrested two people on suspicion of “national security”. “We are investigating a case linked to terrorism”, declared a spokesperson, without further details. A local media, Kathimerini Cyprus, reported that two Iranians, suspected of planning an attack against Israelis, were detained and awaiting deportation. Cyprus, located about 400 kilometers from Israel, has a large Israeli community and has hosted Jews from Israel since the start of the conflict.
