The Alpes-Maritimes department is placed in yellow alertness to thunderstorms from the end of the morning this Wednesday, August 17. A disturbance is indeed coming from the west, from the Rhône valley. According to Météo-France, it should affect the entire department, including the coast, for several hours.
What intensity?
It is therefore, if the predictions are correct, the first real rain in months in the departement. On the other hand, the storms should not be as violent as in the neighboring departments. “They will be a little unloaded. The Alpes-Maritimes are rather at the end of the race”explains Gabriel Lellouch, forecaster at Météo-France. “Nevertheless, there are still thunderstorms, so there is a part that is unpredictable”he adds.
What rain accumulations?
On the set of the episode, It should therefore fall between 30 and 50 mm rain throughout the episode. 80mm in places. It’s not very impressive, we’ve had worse. But it can be enough to weaken the waterways. in a context of drought where the soils are very hard.
In the mountains it’s the same principle: drought and storms weaken the walls and the risk of falling rocks is accentuated. The authorities are calling for people to take shelter as far as possible from these walls and sectors at risk during the storm, to reduce their speed, and to contact the gendarmerie or the dedicated toll-free number in the event of landslides or falls of Pierre : 05050606 for the road authorities to intervene.
