The heat wave that is hitting France will intensify. Météo France placed, on Friday June 17, 14 departments on red vigilance for the heat wave and 56 departments on orange vigilance. Monthly heat records have been broken in at least 11 cities, but others are in danger of being shattered. Franceinfo details the forecast for Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday: the hottest day
Saturday will be marked by the generalization and amplification of the heat wave throughout the territory, according to forecasts by Météo France. “The heat wave that we have been experiencing since Thursday is a particularly early and intense episode which will intensify until Saturday”comment to franceinfo Samuel Morin, researcher at Météo France and director of the National Center for Meteorological Research. “Saturday will be the hottest day nationwide”, says Francois Gourandmeteorologist at Météo France.

The night temperatures will be stifling, between 16 and 21°C in the northern half and on the South-East and especially between 21 and 25°C on the south-western quarter and more locally in Corsica. At the hottest of the afternoon, the temperatures will be suffocating, from 38 to 42°C in the Midi-Pyrénées, in New-Aquitaine, in the Pays de la Loire, in the Centre-Val de Loire, in Ile-de -France and Burgundy.

Sunday: temperatures down sharply in the West
After the peak on Saturday, Sunday should be marked by a drop in temperatures. “The heat wave should end on Sunday in the western half of the country, but it could continue in the east and south”predicts François Gourand.
On the tip of Brittany and the Channel coast, temperatures will range from 19 to 24°C. For the maximum, Météo France predicts 35 to 37°C in the East and locally up to 38°C in Alsace. “The heat wave could last until Tuesday [à l’échelle nationale]“said meteorologist François Jobard, reported the regional daily South West.
