A little bit of Louisiana in Drummondville
Woodyatt Park, on the banks of the Saint-François River, in Drummondville, is hosting the third edition of the Trad-Cajun festival this weekend, led by the leader of the group Kaïn, Steve Veilleux. The popular folk rock group is not on the bill for this celebration of traditional and country music from here and the Louisiana bayou. But the very popular country stars Matt Lang, Sara Dufour, the “trad” veterans of La Bottine Souriante and De Temps Antan, the “Rockin Fiddler” from Louisiana, Waylon Thibodeaux, and the bluegrass singer (and adopted Quebecer) Bosko Baker will set it on fire. In the good sense of the word…
Street arts in Old Quebec
The first edition of Réverbère, a festival dedicated to street arts, invades Old Quebec until October 14. The curious who stroll through the most touristy district of the province can be pleasantly surprised in the afternoon and early evening by the performances of dozens of artists from various backgrounds. On the program: magical processions, circus acts on the streets, alleys and facades of emblematic buildings of the old town, but also more or less comical theater and music shows, improv rap and even from the poetic tarot draw…
Swinging in Carleton-sur-Mer
For fans of traditional music and dance, head to Carleton-sur-Mer, in Gaspésie, until Sunday, for La Virée trad. In addition to shows by the Swindlers, the Tireux d’Roches, the Nova Scotian group Còig accompanied by Yves Lambert, as well as Henri Godon, who should delight little ones, festival-goers will be able to enjoy guitar workshops, violin and initiation to jigging. And they will be able to put to good use what they have learned during the dance and traditional music evenings which will punctuate the evenings of the long weekend. Also on the program: improv jig matches.
The “sides” of the FNC
In addition to the vast program of films from here and elsewhere that can be seen during this first weekend of the Festival du nouveau cinéma, the range of activities alongside the more “classic” screenings has something to satisfy the movie buffs looking for other experiences. Friday evening, the less shy will be able to show off their vocal talents at the giant live Karaoke. Saturday, fans of Jaws will be able to skim (sitting comfortably on deckchairs) all the titles of this series of films during the Great Night of Jaws and, on Sunday, play Thanksgiving Bingo, hosted by the drag queen Lady Guidoune… and his father.
