What to do this long weekend from May 18 to 21?

Choral marathon (free)

The PODIUM 2024 congress and festival, which brings together amateur and professional choral singing artists from across Canada in the metropolis this weekend, offers the public curious about this collective musical form a few paid indoor concerts, but also a whole marathon of Free mini-concerts from choral groups from the greater Montreal area and elsewhere in Canada. At the Georges-Émile Lapalme cultural space at Place des Arts, the event Burst choirs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. will feature nearly thirty choirs from all musical backgrounds: gospel, pop, classical and mixed music. Discoveries are also there in the series of ephemeral concerts offered Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Mezzanine of the Delta hotel on Avenue du Président-Kennedy, on the square in front of Christ Church Cathedral and around the Pierre-Mercure room.

“Nourishing” exhibition

Since Thursday, the Montreal Science Center has been offering the North American premiere of the exhibition. Banquet, produced by the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie in Paris, but adapted here for the Quebec public by highlighting the culinary scene and culture here. Gourmets of all ages will be able to discover basic cooking techniques, the science of taste in all its splendor, the physics and chemistry of food as well as the history and codes of the banquet. Enough to make you want to cook like a chef.

Musical immersion

After releasing Parheliahis second album to be released in three months after the very successful Albedo, in the brand new dome of the SAT, in Montreal, the Totalement sublime group once again offers to savor their music in an “immersive 360° audiovisual experience”, this time in Quebec. On May 18, the Pantoum will welcome the group that makes ambient, enveloping and sometimes experimental pop for four performances of this unusual multisensory concert lasting 25 minutes. The band will offer a more “traditional” launch show later in the evening.

Cinema (free) on tour

We stretch the concept of a long weekend a bit by shining the spotlight on the first stop of the first edition of Par-Court Plein(s) Écran(s), a ten-stop tour of a program of Quebec short films revealed during recent editions of this festival mainly presented online. Free indoor performances of the quartet of “small views” (Suzanne & Chantalby Rachel Graton, Mimine by Simon Laganière, Operation Wolverineby Nicolas Krief and Kill the bikini! by Justine Gauthier), supplemented by a film made by a filmmaker from the region visited, will be followed by discussions with the makers of one of these works. Tuesday, the tour will stop at the Maison du cinéma de Sherbrooke at 7 p.m.
