What routes for the fourth edition of the Drheam Cup departing from Cherbourg?

The Dream Cup officially takes up residence this Wednesday at Port Chantereyne in Cherbourg, with the opening of the village starting at 10 am. Free activities are offered there all day until the day of the big departure, this Sunday, July 17, for 128 boats registered (amateurs and professionals) fourth edition of the test. The race is a qualifier for the next Route du Rhum, with a raised plateau. Francois Gabart, Thomas Coville in the category Ultimate will be part of it, just like John Galfione in class 40.

Three different courses are proposed by the race direction to the 11 categories of sailboatswho will have to get to Trinité-sur-Mer as quickly as possiblein Morbihan.

A visit to Bilbao for the Ultimate category

Three departures are scheduled with a 20-minute difference for security reasons, starting at 2 p.m. Sailors will cross the Channel in a straight line, towards the south of englandbefore following the British coast to the wolfe lighthouse, all to the west. This is where the paths diverge.

  • the DC 600 course (600 miles to cover) concerns the smallest boats (Figaro 3 Bénéteau, Multi 2000, IRC and Mini 6.50). They will turn to port to circumvent Brittany, reach the plateau of Rochebonne, near the island of Ré, in order to reach the finish.
  • the course DC 1.000 (1,000 miles to go), with six different categories (Class 40, Imoca, Ocean Fifty, Rhum Multi, Rhum Mono and Open Grands Monohulls), for its part imposes a passage through the south of Ireland to Fastnet Rockto set the course towards the BXA buoy at the entrance to the Gironde estuary before going up towards the Trinité-sur-Mer. It is this category which is concerned by the qualification for the next Route du Rhum.
  • the course DC 1,500 (1,500 miles to cover), which is aimed solely at Ultimes class multihulls, asks skippers to circumnavigate theIsle of man via the Irish Sea, then a crossing of the Bay of Biscay until Bilbao (Spain). To cross the finish line, the sailors will have to sail along the entire Atlantic seaboard. The first boats are expected two days later between Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 next.
The longest course will see the Ultimate boats pass around the Isle of Man, reach Bilbao before crossing the Atlantic seaboard to cross the finish line at La Trinité-sur-Mer.

Before the big start, this Sunday, spectators will have the opportunity to see the sailboats up close, during the twenty mile prologue Between The Hague and BarfleurFriday.

France Blue Cotentin is a partner of the event, with a relocated studio in the departure village and a broadcast live from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The start on Sunday will also be live.
