In 2023, the suicide of a 15-year-old teenager following school bullying caused a shockwave in Yvelines. A look back at the measures put in place to prevent these tragedies.

Nicolas Nebot, a 15-year-old boy committed suicide at the start of the 2023 school year, a victim of bullying. A year after the tragedy, his town, Poissy (Yvelines), pays tribute to him. Several actions have been implemented since his suicide. The latest is a new ministerial communication campaign featuring parents. It aims to confront adults with what their child may be experiencing. Anti-bullying programs have multiplied in recent years.

Concrete changes include dedicated referents in schools, information at the start of each school year and prevention throughout the year. In addition to parents, associations are counting on the involvement of students. Training for student ambassadors is in demand. This involves “10 students per establishment who are trained to engage, prevent and detect harassment“, explains Nora Tirane-Fraisse, general delegate of the association “Marion la main tendue”.
