Back to school abundance
Back to school literature, back to school TV. I need an Excel file to plan my fall. The new books are catching my eye (while my vacation pile is not quite finished) and I can’t be more happy at the idea of finding the characters of STATmy favorite daily, on ICI Radio-Canada. But now the fourth season of My Brilliant Friend (adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s novels) will soon be coming to HBO. And Cate Blanchett is coming to Apple TV+ in Disclaimer. Not to mention Dumasby Luc Dionne, which piques my curiosity. A big return. And we won’t complain.

A climate victory in South Korea
If I had a South Korean child in front of me, I would give them a big high five. In South Korea, a top court has just ruled that the government’s underambitious climate targets are endangering future generations and violating the country’s constitution. The decision comes after a four-year legal battle by activists, including children. The court is giving the government until 2026 to set reduction targets beyond 2030. Convincing our governments to take the climate emergency seriously is one of the greatest challenges of our time. This victory, the first of its kind in Asia, will certainly help.

Montrealers at Place Bell
Will we finally be able to get tickets to see Marie-Philip Poulin, Ann-Renée Desbiens and the Montrealers play in the Professional Women’s Hockey League? This season, their home games will be played at Place Bell in Laval, which has 10,172 seats. Last year, the team played most of its games at the Auditorium de Verdun (about 5,000 seats), six games at Place Bell and one game at the Bell Centre. More good news for sports fans: Place Bell will host six professional basketball games this winter for the Brooklyn Nets’ farm team in the G-League, the NBA’s development league.

My first indigo bunting
I was struggling up the Camillien-Houde route on my bike, “practicing myself to death,” as Pierre Foglia would say, when I spotted it: a small, incredibly bright blue bird watching me sweat without flinching. Bird watchers will correct me, but a glance at my Peterson bird guide makes me believe that this is my first encounter with an indigo bunting. We often forget that Montreal is an interesting place to observe wildlife. According to the group Les amis de la montagne, more than 180 species of birds and nearly 20 species of mammals inhabit Mount Royal. Just keep your eyes peeled!
