Thursday, July 13 on board a TGV, a man who had broken a window of the train, could be mastered by a police officer present on board, in civilian clothes. The result of a system set up in January 2022, “Travel, protect”.
On board the TGV Milan-Paris, Thursday, July 13, a madman sowed panic, threatening passengers. He was brought under control by an off-duty policeman, who traveled with his weapon, free of charge, provided that he intervened in the event of a serious problem. This system, called “Travel, protect”, was set up in 2022 by the Ministry of the Interior.

A police officer met by France Télévisions is one of the volunteer police officers. During a train journey, he had to manage a woman suffering from psychiatric disorders, with her very premature baby and in danger of death. “The station master explained the facts to me, telling me that there had been a kidnapping”he recalls. “When the emergency services arrived, I was told that his vital prognosis was engaged because he was premature”, he adds. To be part of the device, the police officer must practice shooting every three months, have his armband, a special authorization card and report to the controller.
