This makes sense for at least two reasons. First, he takes note of the refusal of these two parties to participate in a coalition government. Remember that last week, when he received the party leaders at the Elysée, the President even tested the idea of a “national unity” government and it was rejected by all his interlocutors. And then, if Emmanuel Macron says “do not mix up” these “two extremes“, he considers that these are not parties of government. A way of reassuring also his electorate who would not understand that the re-elected head of state wants to associate with the affairs the far right which he defeated in the presidential election. or the radical left which he defeated in the legislative elections.
It’s complicated, very complicated of course, but it is precisely to attract other support, reinforcements from elsewhere, that the Head of State immediately dismisses the RN and LFI. No one, especially on the left, would join a coalition involving the far right. And on the side of LR, not an elected official would join a government or a majority in which the rebels would appear.
As for the other formations, left and right, the PS, the PCF and the Greens on one side, LR on the other, their situation is less comfortable. On the one hand, the staffs of the parties refuse the hand extended by the presidential majority. Occasionally no doubt, depending on the bills. Within the framework of a coalition, it is less probable, except if the deputies emancipate themselves from the instructions of their parties. The voices of certain mayors or presidents of right-wing regions are beginning to rise in this direction.
Above all, the Head of State thinks that time can work in his favor. Because the longer the blockage lasts, the more elected officials from the moderate left and right could be held responsible by their constituents.
