Seven out of ten French people wear glasses today. A sector where competition is tough, particularly with the appearance of low-cost brands. What do you think of the 10 euro glasses offer? Is the promise kept on the final invoice? Investigation.

Glasses for 10 euros ready in ten minutes, the promise is tempting, especially in times of inflation. What are these frames and lenses really worth? Mohamed is a student. His budget is tight, so he was attracted by the offer. “Frankly, I don’t believe it, but I would like to see if it’s true”, he comments. Finally, the student will wait 25 minutes for three pairs and will pay 155 euros, far from the stated promise. But the student is still satisfied with the quality of his glasses.

Play on volumes to lower prices

For many, this allows them to get their glasses faster. In these stores, for a pair of glasses, customers spend on average 65 euros. It’s five times cheaper than at a traditional optician. At the back of one of these shops, there are thousands of glasses in stock and state-of-the-art machines. They allow large quantities to be produced on site. On average, the store produces 300 pairs of glasses every day. Playing on volumes allows them to lower prices.
