A national tribute will be paid to the painter Pierre Soulages Wednesday November 2, in the square courtyard of the Louvre, in Paris, a week after his death at the age of 102 years. Emmanuel Macron will preside over this ceremony, open to the public, in the presence of members of the government and the family of the artist. “Pierre Soulages knew how to reinvent black, by making light spring from it. Beyond black, his works are vivid metaphors from which each of us draws hope”, reacted the head of state on Twitter after his death.

The Elysée has detailed the course of the ceremony: the family and the guests will arrive at 1:30 p.m. on site. Then the national tribute ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. in the Cour Carrée du Louvre. Ten minutes later, the President of the Republic will deliver a eulogy in tribute to the painter. The bell “Aux Morts” will sound, a minute of silence will be performed and the Marseillaise will then be performed by the French Army Choir. The tribute ceremony will then close at 3:35 p.m., specifies the Elysée.
