In Guadeloupe, tensions remain high on Monday 22 November. The 13 Hours of France 2 profiles the demonstrators and their demands.

The police were deployed massively on the evening of Sunday, November 21 in Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe. To enforce the curfew, they were supported by reinforcements from mainland France. Many incidents took place during the day, municipal service premises were vandalized. After being destroyed, the dams were immediately rebuilt.

In the general opinion, it is the youth who have taken over in the protest movement. An anger that now exceeds the question of the vaccine obligation against Covid-19. The rise in prices is also singled out. “We are workers, not delinquents. We work to feed our families”, says a protester. One in three young people is unemployed in Guadeloupe. More than a third of the inhabitants live on less than 1,010 euros per month.
