“What is on the table is historic”, estimates Saturday May 18 on France Inter. Thomas Fatome, general director of the National Health Insurance Fund (Cnam), who invited doctors’ unions to “take the opportunity, in the coming days, to sign this draft agreement”.
The price of a consultation with a general practitioner will increase to 30 euros in December, according to a draft agreement finalized by Health Insurance and the unions of private doctors during final negotiations this week. “We worked a lot for six months on these negotiations. We are 48 hours away from the final sprint, these last two days are very intense”he explained.
The increase from 26.50 euros to 30 euros for the consultation barely compensates for inflation, according to the Federation of Doctors of France: “It’s honestly a fairly unprecedented rate of increase”replies Thomas Fatome. “We had to send this signal, this shock of attractiveness with a very significant increase”, he explained. Every year, France loses 500 general practitioners. Thomas Fatome calls on doctor’s unions to sign this new agreement.
“We must seize the opportunity to move forward with an agreement that is ambitious. Everyone must realize in the coming days that what is on the table is historic, what is on the table must allow us to transform the system of deep health.”

This new medical agreement represents an effort of 1.6 billion euros on the part of the State: “It’s a significant investment. It’s an ambitious agreement for private doctors and for patients”, he assures. In the event of a blockage, Thomas Fatome foresees a status quo: “If they say no, well nothing will happen. We stay at 26.50 euros.”
“Is this the agreement absolutely dreamed of by all the unions? I don’t know. By definition surely not. It’s social dialogue. An agreement is always a compromise. It’s also a compromise for Health Insurance But it’s true that if there is no agreement, nothing will happen.explains general director of Cnam.
