Mahjoub Mahjoubi, an imam from Gard, is accused of preaching anti-France. A preliminary investigation was opened for condoning terrorism and the Minister of the Interior requested, on Monday February 19, the withdrawal of his residence permit with a view to his expulsion from the territory.
It was an extract, broadcast on social networks, which provoked the anger of the authorities. We see the imam preaching in these terms: “We will no longer have all these tricolor flags, which plague us, which give us headaches, which have no value with Allah. The only value they have is a satanic value.” Through these comments, Mahjoub Mahjoubi has become undesirable in France, according to the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, who requested, Monday February 19, the withdrawal of his residence permit with a view to his expulsion from the territory.
Monitored for several months
This Tunisian national, aged 52, officiates at the mosque of Bagnols-sur-Cèze (Gard). According to the prefect of Gard, he had been under surveillance for months for anti-Semitic or sexist preaching. Abdallah Zekri, vice-president of the French center of Muslim worship, strongly condemns his comments. “I cannot accept these words and I strongly denounce them”, he said. The imam speaks of a “slip of the tongue”. A preliminary investigation was opened for advocating terrorism. At the same time, the Gard prefecture is studying the conditions under which this father could be expelled from French territory.
