What future for the former Saint-Saviol dairy near Civray?

What future for the former Saint-Saviol dairy in the South of Vienna? The industrial site closed its doors in March 2020 after more than a century of activity – its creation dates back to 1912. A closure with nearly 90 employees on the floor at the time (dismissed or reclassified).

A closure which had been decided in May 2019 by the owner of the premises, the agri-food giant Savencia (holder of the brands Elle&Vire, Lescure, Caprice des Dieux, Saint-Môret, Valrhona, Bordeau Chesnel, etc.) considering that the dairy was no longer profitable.

At least four recovery projects … all aborted

Insistent rumors have been circulating for a few weeks. “The site has been sold or is about to be” indicates an elected representative on condition of anonymity. A sale that categorically denies … the seller himself. The management of Savencia is clear: “the site has not been sold, no sales file is in progress“.

It must be said that since the announcement of the closure more than three years ago, the recovery projects have been numerous but have never succeeded. First there was the American Schreiber who makes the cheese slices for McDonald’s sandwiches. He said he was ready to buy the site, to invest 30 million euros and to make about thirty hires. A failure.

Latest lead: a platform for mass distribution

Then there was Galacto, a Parisian group that wanted to recycle goat’s milk serum for infant food for the Chinese market. A chimera, the file not having met the financial guarantees. “A candidate who wanted to establish an amusement park also inquired, it was not further“adds a connoisseur of the file.

A project to set up a logistics platform for mass distribution is mentioned, but again, nothing concrete. The clock is ticking though. Savencia had given itself three years to sell the site, the owner still maintains the premises. But after 2023, what will happen to the wasteland if no sale has been concluded? The communities, worried, are following the file carefully.
