Paris 2024: what future for the Olympic symbols?

The Olympic rings “will remain on the Eiffel Tower” after the Games, Anne Hidalgo announced on Saturday, August 31. The mayor of Paris also wants to keep the symbol of the Paralympics, the agitos, on the Arc de Triomphe and the Olympic cauldron at the Tuileries.

It has survived the years without changing. However, the Eiffel Tower was given a new look at the beginning of June, with the five Olympic rings. These will remain after the Games, as announced by Anne Hidalgo on Saturday, August 31. They will be a legacy of the competition, but the idea divides the French. “It seems a little strange to me”confides a passerby. Some would indeed like to see the Eiffel Tower return “its original state”.

The rings, too heavy to remain on the building, will be replaced by a lighter structure. The city hall wants to keep the symbol of the Paralympic Games, the agitos, on the Arc de Triomphe and the Olympic cauldron at the Tuileries. But this decision is up to the State. If Paris wants to extend the Games on its monuments, other countries have turned the page like London (United Kingdom) in 2012. The rings had disappeared from Tower Bridge after the competition.
