Abdelaziz Bouteflika, at the time Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, was received in 1968 at the Élysée. It was then a question of writing the continuation of the Evian agreements, which had put an end to the Algerian war six years earlier. The text of December 27, 1968 therefore grants a special status to Algerians, of whom there are already dozens working in France in search of labor.
A certificate of residence
For 55 years, these agreements have therefore given nationals certain advantages. They do not have a residence card, but a residence certificate. In addition, they have the possibility of opening a business or exercising an independent profession. Finally, they can benefit from facilitated family reunification. In the event of a rupture, French companies, many of which have activities in Algeria, could be affected.
