No call for calm from Jean-Luc Mélenchon who refuses to respond to what would be, according to him, an injunction from the “watch dogs”, he prefers to call “Justice”. Jean-Luc Mélenchon who in a video on Friday justifies himself: the Insoumis “are against any strategy of violence”and he says: “Do not touch schools, libraries, gymnasiums…”, and that’s all. Not a word of town halls, police stations, these symbols of the State also targeted by the rioters.

The next day, the house of the mayor of Haÿ-les-Roses is attacked by a ram car. Asked whether he condemned, on LCI, Sunday evening, Jean-Luc Mélenchon chooses his words and says his “absolute disavowal of this kind of method”while still refusing to call for calm and seeming to draw an equal sign between the violence of the rioters and the violence of the police.

Disagreements on the left

Nothing very surprising for the man “Sound and Fury”we remember his words, from 2012: “Political conquest has a prerequisite: everything must be brought into conflict.” His faithful Louis Boyard specifies moreover that these are not “riots”, but “revolts”, as if to give political nobility to the violence. In addition, Jean-Luc Mélenchon hopes to reap the fruits of anger after having tried in vain to recover it during the “yellow vests” or during the pension reform. A pinch of electoralism also when we know that the rebellious has made among his biggest scores in the presidential election in the suburbs.

And this attitude, once again, divides the Nupes. Communist Fabien Roussel quickly clarified that his speech was “different” and that he, from the start, had called for calm. Even Olivier Faure, the boss of the PS, got wet and recognized a “deep disagreement” with Jean-Luc Melenchon. The sign of an increasingly minority rebellious strategy which, by dint of splitting, reinforces its glass ceiling and whose victim discourse seems to forget that the first victims of the riots are indeed the young people of the districts.
