“Hi it’s Leo, what does it say?”

This Monday, June 10, France no longer has a deputy. Sunday evening, Emmanuel Macron declared the dissolution of the National Assembly after the large victory of the National Rally in the European elections. With 31.4% of the vote, the far-right party achieved more than double the score of the presidential Renaissance party (14.6%).

If RN activists immediately rejoiced at this announcement from Emmanuel Macron, those on the left fear the worst. The President of the Republic has in fact called new legislative elections on June 30 and July 7.

On this occasion, if the National Rally confirms its position as the leading party in France, the President of the Republic will be obliged to appoint Marine Le Pen or Jordan Bardella to the post of Prime Minister.

Faced with this possibility, many left-wing activists and leaders are calling for unity behind a “Popular Front” banner, which the PS, EELV, PCF and LFI have struggled to achieve for two years.

At the European level, the far right also came first in Austria or Italy, and second in Germany and the Netherlands. However, the balances remain unchanged in the European Parliament. The right-wing EPP remains the leading group of MEPs ahead of the socialists and centrists.
