Renault announced on Wednesday March 23 that it would suspend the activities of its factory in Moscow, Russia. How is the decision received by the employees?

On the morning of Thursday, March 24, Renault employees in Moscow (Russia) avoided questions from journalists. The factory employs 2,000 people and 80,000 vehicles are assembled there each year. The day before, in the face of pressure, Renault suspended all its activities in Russia. The disengagement amounts to several billion euros. The country is indeed Renault’s second largest market. The French manufacturer employs 45,000 people throughout the country.

In France, some employees are worried. “Since I have a family, it scares me a little. If I work more, I don’t know what we’ll do. (…) The future is not very serene, we will say“, confides a man. For a month, the controversy has been mounting. On Wednesday, the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, targeted French companies in Russia. In France, the withdrawal of Renault divides. “Out of solidarity yes, but besides that, it’s the Russian people who will pay the consequences, and it’s very complicated, because [qu’]he did not ask to go to war“, comments a woman. Renault has announced that it is reviewing on the decline its margin forecasts.
