During the first match of the French team for Euro 2024, Monday June 17, Kylian Mbappé fractured his nose. An injury which can lead to complications, explains doctor and journalist Damien Mascret.
On the evening of Monday June 17, the Blues won their first match of Euro 2024, scoring 1-0 against Austria. But the team captain, Kylian Mbappé, left the field with a bloody face and a broken nose. Generally, a fracture of the nose, which is mostly made up of cartilage, is a benign injury. “Sometimes it gets complicated”, nevertheless explains the doctor and journalist Damien Mascret, on the set of 20 Heures de France 2, Tuesday June 18. When the nasal bone is broken, it can lead to a displaced fracture, which can cause difficulty breathing.
Second possible complication, a hematoma can form on the nasal septum, which separates the nose in two. “If we don’t drain it, it leads to nasal obstruction, it makes it difficult to breathe”, explains Damien Mascret. The presence of Kylian Mbappé is therefore uncertain for the match against the Netherlands, Friday June 21.
